St. John's College of Nursing has been loyal to its committment to provide a balanced complete nursing education and clinical skills to its students since its initiation in 1980. The main aim of this college is to produce brilliantly knowledgeable, morally vertical, devoutly stimulated, full of compassion and socially dedicated and competent nurses from the learning students of this college. This college located in the main campus, near to the medical college and hospital is headed by the Chief of Nursing Sevices. The teaching faculty of this college are involved in patient care, teaching hospital staffs and administration of nursing services in the parent hospital and the senior nursing staff of the hospital are included in student teaching and supervision. With a teaching staff strength of 50 members and 14 non-teaching staff, this college has full-fledged seven teaching departments who are equally devoted to various fields of Nursing.

St. John's College of Nursing offers courses like; Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery, B.Sc. Nursing and Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing course in under-graduate degree and M.Sc. Nursing course under post-graduatre degree in affiliation to Rajhiv Gandhi University of Health Science and Karnataka State Diploma Nursing Examination Board and in acrredition to Indian Nationak Council and Karnataka Nursing Council recognized by Government of Karnataka. The parental hospital named St. John's Medical College Hospital is one of the tertiary medical service center with the capacity of more than 1350 beds. This hospial offers specialty and super-specialty services where the students can learn and experience how to deal with various kinds of diseases and different types of patients. This hospital experiences more than 5,03274 outpatients with an average of about 1850 in daily basis. These many number of outflow in this hospital makes it one of the best hospitals in Bangalore with utmost facilities and care services provided to the patients. Thus the nursing students are trained and exposed for their practicals in this environment under the guidance of professional experts of this hospital.   • General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM)
  • It is one of the specialized areas of nursing education. This course aims to prepare nurses who are competent and independent in carrying out an apt plan of action in the professional world. In St. John's College of Nursing students are given more chance of interaction in the classes to build up understanding level of students. Teacher from every aspect tried to give students as much knowledge as they can while studying General Nursing and Midwifery here.

General nursing includes of general health care given in hospitals, clinics, school, colleges, military etc to sick people.   • Post graduate degree in Nursing is taken after completion of B.Sc. Nursing course. Students who are interested in academics and research work take up this course. Students are also given the option of 5 specialities under this course. The students have to submit a dissertation for the completion of the course. Students are given proper clinical exposures under the guidance of the expertise. The fields of specialization offered under this course in St. John's College of Nursing are:

    1. Medical Surgical Nursing
    2. The specialization is done by the nurses who work in patient care units, ambulatory care units, surgical centres, emergency care units etc. The nurses of this specialization deal with the health of adult patients. The nurses of this field are to study about medicines as well, as they are to look after the medication of the patients.

    3. Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing
    4. This area of nursing deals with women in their age from puberty till menopause. The nurses of this field give care to women who have health issues regarding their reproductive system like during pregnancy, child labour, birth etc.

      The nurses of this area work in maternity wards.

      The nurses are to pursue a diploma or a degree related to women’s health and obstetrics to become OB/GYN nurses. Minimum of 2 years of experiences is needed to sit for NCC Inpatient Obstetric Nursing certification Examination and become a certified OB/GYN nurse.

    5. Community Health Nursing
    6. The nurses trained in this area are involved in healthcare of the community. They work in rural and urban community healthcare centres. The community health nurses are responsible for the health of an entire community. To become a community health nurse, one needs to be a registered nurse by getting a degree and by sitting for the exam of National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses. The nurses also need to have work experience for several years.

    7. Pediatrics Nursing
    8. This area specializes in giving health care to infants and children. The nurses are given training in giving care to children or infants with health issues. To practice nursing of this area, the nurses needs to be a registered nurse with a bachelor’s degree.

    9. Psychiatric Nursing
    10. Also known as mental health nursing is a course where the nurses specialize in mental health and care for people who are suffering from mental illness. Nurses of this area get training in psychological therapies. A psychiatric nurse is required to be a registered nurse and specialize in mental health. This type of nurse work in mental institutes, psychiatric hospitals, mental asylums etc.

Hostel

This institute has hostel with qualified warden being arranged for boys and girls separately with at most security in St. John's College of Nursing.
