Post Basic In Operation Room Nursing

The main role of Operating Room Nurse is to provide care for the patients before, during and after surgery or surgical procedures. These nurses also involve the role of a patient educator, circulating nurse and scrub nurse and potentially RN first assistant or operating room director with additional trainings. The circulating nurse category work within the operating site but outside the antiseptic field, scrub nurses handle and prepare operating instruments and equipments within the antiseptic field. The operating room nurses work in every type of healthcare facilities including hospitals, ambulatory or outpatient surgery centers and physician offices. These nurses after the completion of their post certificate course initially qualify RNs for the respective nursing positions. The candidates are encouraged to be prepared in critical care units and emergency rooms to gain program approval and after the 2 years of inaugural experience only the clinicians are worthy to take voluntary certificate examination in order to qualify as a full-fledged Operating Room Nurse.

The RN specializing in Perioperative Nursing practice performs nursing activities in the preoperative, intra-operative and postoperative phases of the patient’s surgical experience. The operating room nurse provides continuity care throughout the perioperative period, using scientific and behavioral practices with the eventual achievement of meeting the individual needs of the patients undergoing the surgical mediation. Therefore this process is dynamic and is required constant reevaluation of the individual nursing practice in the operating room.

Eligibility Criteria

There are certain conditions given to the students if they are willing to study Post Basic in Operation Room Nursing course. Some of the eligibility criteria to know before getting enrolled in this course are:

  • Candidates must be mentally fit.
  • Should have good fluency and understanding of English language.
Education Qualification
